Good points Joel. I have never thought of this before. I have all of my hosting with the same hosting company that allows unlimited websites. I never thought I would need another hosting company. After reading your post I am going to look into getting another one soon.

Great suggestion. I haven't really thought about it but makes perfect sense. I am in the process of moving my main site to UMC also.

Thanks Joel, this is a topic that I had not come across before and had not thought about. I've been wanting to move my sites from my current host because it does not use Fantastico and has limited number of WordPress blogs you can set up but after reading your post it makes sense to have more than 1 hosting account. The UMC you suggest looks very interesting. I'll definetly consider your advice before setting up another site

I had never really considered having more than one hosting account. You lay out some good reasons why having more than one is important. I think it might be something to consider and I will take a look at the host you have recommended. I too host most of my sites at host gator as I like the speed in which I can get my websites up after I change the DNS. Does not take very long at all.

Thanks for the comment Brett...

I do not study earch engine optimization full time, but yes, the main point to having different hosts for backlinks is because they use different IP addresses.

However, I have heard that just because maybe the last digit of the IP address might be different, that's not enough. The search engines can tell if the address is from the same "group" of web sites/addresses. So you need a new group (or what I think it's called is a subnet).

Very good point you have made here Joel,

You don't hardly hear anything about this but you are absolutely right. I also have 3 hosting accounts and have my sites spread somewhat between them.

I honestly do need to do a better job as I do have the majority of sites hosted with HostGator though. Have gotten really use to their interface and can set something up so much quicker than with the other 2 I have.

I do have one question though. Do you know whether the ip address makes a difference? I do have multiple ip's on some of my sites with HostGator. Was just wondering if that makes a difference.

Thanks!
